Simmer Pot Ritual
Ritual, simply put, is a way to either make or mark meaning. Almost anything could become a ritual, for what makes it a ritual is what we put into it. Our careful mindfulness, intentions, and actions create something sacred.
Items needed:
Simmer Pot Ritual Kit
A small cookpot
A heating source, such as a stovetop
Ritual Instructions:
Choose an intention for your ritual
Suggestions: To honor or mark an occasion or milestone; to clear or focus your mind; to bring something or push something out (of your space, mind, or life); to care for yourself, others, your space, etc.
Clear your mind and speak (or think) your intention to begin with a culturally significant phrase, or simply:
I begin this ritual
This ritual of ___ begins
With this ritual I ask ___
Fill pot with water:
Between ½ and ¾ full is ideal
Speak (or think) your intentions, such as:
I purify this space
May this steam cleanse/protect/reveal ___
I release ___
Add Simmer Pot Ritual Kit:
All items at once
One item at a time
Naming your intention as you place each item
Bring water to a boil
Breathe in the steam, noticing the scent, the heat by wafting it toward you
Reduce to a simmer
If you choose, begin the guided meditation found on this page
Allow to simmer until the majority of the water has evaporated
Remove from heat
After the guided meditation, or when your ritual is complete:
Close any workings you have added, such as blowing out a candle, turning off music, etc.
Speak aloud (or think) your intention to close the ritual with a culturally significant phrase, or simply:
I end this ritual
This ritual is complete
May it be so
As above, so below
Finally, honor the items used by returning them to the earth, where possible
Compost, burn, bury, or if no other option exists, place in trash
